I’ve been experimenting with creating lye from two sources mainly — banana peels and scrap wood that was lying around in my local workshop. As you see in the images, each requires a different procedure. Wood in burnt in the handy metallic incinerator, catching fire quite quickly. Banana peels, on the other hand, require a more slow process of drying in the oven, and then incinerating by way of applying a constant flame with a torch. I have manage to produce ashes in both cases and are now sitting in rain water. So now waiting for the chemical process to take place and produce lye. Will report back!
